Jean's top 5 books I could not finish.

Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book

Jean asks: What if the book isn't one you're enjoying?  What then?  There are people in the world who think that once they begin a book it must be finished. I am not one of them. There are far too many books waiting for me to read that I will not be able to put down for me to struggle with other books.

Top 1Blood bond
by Michael Green

NZ F GRE

"What happens if your family is the last left alive? The Chatfield family - half living in the UK, the other in New Zealand - found out the stark realities of survival after a deadly pandemic swept across the world. Now escaping the repressive regime at Haver Hall in the UK, a group sails back to the southern hemisphere. Stopping in South Africa and then Australia, they are faced by unexpected dangers but also the hope that there might be other survivors. What awaits them in New Zealand, though, is even more challenging. And can those left in the UK survive each other?" -- Back cover.

Jean's note: Based on the supposition that one family could survive a flu pandemic.  The same family who kept falling into traps time and again.

Top 2Sisters
by Danielle Steel

F STE

Four sisters, a Manhattan brownstone, and a tumultuous year of loss come together in this story.

Jean's note: I'm not sure why after vowing not to read any of her books I picked this one up. I really wish I hadn't. I didn't read any more than the first chapter which was about the youngest sister, a model, who was blonde, beautiful, anorexic and absolutely boring.

Top 3Twilight
by Stephenie Meyer

YF MEY

When seventeen-year-old Isabella Swan moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father she expects that her new life will be as dull as the town itself. In spite of her awkward manner and low expectations, she finds that her new classmates are drawn to this pale, dark-haired new girl in town. But not, it seems, the Cullen family. These five adopted brothers and sisters obviously prefer their own company and will make no exception for Bella. Bella is convinced that Edward Cullen in particular hates her, but she feels a strange attraction to him, although his hostility makes her feel almost physically ill. He seems determined to push her away - until, that is, he saves her life from an out of control car. Bella will soon discover that there is a very good reason for Edward's coldness. He, and his family, are vampires - and he knows how dangerous it is for others to get too close. -- Publisher description.

Jean's note: Teenage angst - with fangs! Good grief.

Top 41632

by Eric Flint

SCFI FLI

When part of West Virginia is transported to 1632 East Germany during the Thirty Year's War, the new citizens repel marauding mercenaries, house German refugees, determine citizenship, and establish relationships and identities. -- Publisher description.

Jean's note: Americans with gun find themselves in central Europe during the Thirty Years War. They bring with them American democracy and the American way and they weren't Marines!

Top 5 Fox at the front
by Douglas Niles and Michael Dobson

SCFI NIL

The Third Reich has been routed.... But the war is far from over. A new adversary is poised to attack on the eastern front. Former opponents George S. Patton and Erwin Rommel must join forces to neutralize the remnants of SS forces bent on carrying out the Reich's "Final Solution" in Eastern Europe. They are unaware of an intended Soviet land grab that could lead to the Stalinist occupation of postwar Europe and an ongoing Cold War that might destroy any chance for a lasting peace in our time. -- Publisher description.

Jean's note: Rommel and Paton gallivant around Europe towards the end of WW2 fight the Soviets who are planning to do something not nice. It might have been a better read if we had the first book in the system "Fox on the Rhine."
