I think they should put a link on book search pages to the reviews people had wrote, but then there are not many reviews yet? It would be so much better if I can see that a book had been reviewed straight away rather than clicking around and search again for reviews and comments(if there's any).

Personally, I can't see the day when e-books will replace the printed word. I have an ebook collection of well over 1,000 books and yet my requesting from library branches has not lessened one iota. If anything, the fact that I edit a couple of newsletters has seen it increase. What I enjoy about ebooks is that it offers me more choice - not less. My genre-fiction reading far exceeds what is ofered on our shelves and, for someone like me, ebooks are merely another avenue for a readable fix. As for updates to ipods, blackberries & various other e-readers it's a matter of seconds in most instances and, for me, a matter of course. I switch it on and if my notebook, iPod touch or blackberry prompts me to update I set it, walk away, and forget it for a bit and then come back ready to go again. What I find irritating are the variety of formats needed to read ebooks in - gimme one. Just one. Not one for each ereader. I do have to admit, though, that nothing beats curling up with a good book and a great coffee. And nothing is better than that new book smell (yes, I smell book pages, and you know you do, too).

Imagine a future without paper books - empty bookshelves, no book clubs, no lending friends your copies, nothing to display on your coffee table, all of your books on one electronic device (susceptible to viruses, failure, batteries and at the mercy of software companies). Not to mention the cost of downloading books & keeping your reader up to date (both software & hardware - who still has an original i-pod?)

I've heard that City Centre Library is planning to relocate to the old ANZ building by Manukau square in 2011. I think that'd be great because the new premises would be bigger and would be able to accomodate more patrons, more space for extra computers and books. Plus the location is still basically the same so there'll be minimum disruption to patrons.

The New Book List for October is now available on the website in Chinese characters. If you visit the New Books page and click on October (under the Archive tab on the right-hand side), you will see the translated Chinese lists under 'Languages'. We will be providing translated Chinese lists each month, but these will arrive on the site a little later than the English lists, as staff need time to translate them. Our apologies for the extra delay but we hope you find these useful!

Some patrons asked for the Chinese New Books List in Manukau Library. It can be found in the new website, but not in Chinese characters. Could someone print out the one in Chinese characters?
