Vote for the Express Yourself People's Choice Award

16/03/2010

Manukau Libraries’ teen art and photographic competition Express Yourself attracted more than 30 entries.  The judge, council’s Pacific Arts Coordinator Ema Tavola, and the Manukau Libraries youth librarians, have selected 13 entries for the Peoples Choice award. These static images will be on display in all Manukau libraries and can also be viewed on the libraries’ website

While the overall winner from all the entries will be judged by Ms Tavola, the public have a chance to vote for their favourite image in the People’s Choice Award.  The prize for the overall winner is an Ipod nano, while the People’s Choice winner receives a digital camera.

Jolene West, Literacy and Learning Coordinator for Manukau Libraries is delighted with the response to the competition.

“I was very impressed with the standard of entries we received for Express Yourself.  Manukau has some extremely talented artistic teens, and it was inspiring to see teens able to express what it means to them to be a teen living in Manukau.  The messages and way they chose to express themselves were extremely varied, but all captured a youth friendly and positive image of Manukau youth”.

Voting closes on 26 March so pop along to your local library or go online to see the images and read the artists' statements about what it means to be a teen in Manukau.
