Papakura District archives.

This list provides guidance to the location of local body archives relating to Papakura District Council and its predecessor and associated bodies.

Papakura District was formed in 1989 from Papakura City with the addition of the Takanini, Alfriston and Ardmore areas from Manukau City and the Drury and Karaka areas from Franklin County. See: ‘A brief history of local government in Papakura’. This lists Papakura local bodies chronologically. An alphabetical list by name of local authority is also available.

Papakura Valley Highway Board,1862-1882; Papakura Road Board, 1883-1918  [1862-1918] (Manukau City Council archives. Copies of minute books 1875-1914 also held at Papakura Museum).  Despite the name, Papakura Valley Highway District included not Papakura but the Alfriston, Brookby, Ardmore areas; became Papakura Road District, 1883; merged in Manukau County, 1918. 
Hunua Highway Board, 1867-1882; Hunua Road Board, 1883-1913  1901-1914 (Archives New Zealand Auckland Regional Office).  Hunua Highway District formed 1867; reduced in size on formation of Papakura Town District, 1882; became Hunua Road District, 1883; again reduced in size by formation of Opaheke North Road District [later Drury Road District].1886; remainder merged in Franklin County, 1913. 
Papakura Town Board, 1882-1938  1882-1938 (Papakura District Council archives. Copies of minute books and selected records 1882-1938 also held at Papakura Museum).  Papakura Town District succeeded by Papakura Borough, 1938. 
Kirk’s Bush Scenic Reserve Board, 1926-1989  1926-1989 (Papakura District Council archives. Copies of selected records [1930-1981] also held by Papakura Museum).   
Papakura Borough Council, 1938-1975  1938-1975 (Papakura District Council archives).  Papakura Borough succeeded by Papakura City, 1975. 
Papakura City Council, 1975-1989  1975-1989 (Papakura District Council archives).  Papakura City succeeded by Papakura District, 1989. 
Papakura District Council, 1989-2010  1989-2010 (Papakura District Council archives).
