Dewey:
A system used by many libraries, including Manukau Libraries, to organise non-fiction items.

Electronic resources:
A term that encompasses a number of different resources e.g. the catalogue, community information database, E-Resources and the internet
Email:
A means of communicating with people using the internet
ESOL:
Abbreviation for English for Speakers of Other Languages
Fiction:
Literature describing imaginary events and people; novels and short stories
Internet:
Also called "the web", "world wide web" or "the net". A means of searching for information and communicating with people around the world
Items:
Used to collectively describe the different types of resources found in a library eg books, videos, audiocassettes, audio books, books on tape, magazines, puzzles and games, music cds, and cd-roms. Used interchangeably with 'resources'
Non-fiction:
Items that contain factual information
Reference:
Items that are for use in the library only. They cannot be borrowed
Renew:
Extend the borrowing period of an item you have out
Request:
To ask for an item to be sent to your local library for you to pick up.
